A México - About YAGM & My Preparation

For those that have know me for a while, and those that have just begun following my journey, I am excited to announce that I will be headed to central Mexico at the end of August for a year-long service program. The program is called Young Adults in Global Mission and is an initiative of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). During this program, I will be living with a host-family and volunteering for a social service ministry. This experience will allow me to be the face of the ELCA in another part of the world, while also engaging in a cross-cultural experience that will be transformative in my life journey. I am really excited about the opportunity Young Adults in Global Mission will grant me to serve those that have been oppressed by poverty, racism, immigration policy, and other injustices. Most of all, I am excited to live with and learn from our Mexican brothers and sisters.

I invite you to be involved in this experience. First, I would love to have you follow my experiences this upcoming year through this blog and to interact through comments on the blog, e-mail, etc. Second, I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers as I prepare for and embark on this journey. Finally, I am in need of financial support. I am in the process of raising $4,000 of the estimated $11,000 it takes to support one young adult in the program for a year. This cost includes training and periodic retreats, round-trip travel to and from the country of service, full room and board, a small monthly stipend, and basic medical insurance.

Donations can be made with credit card by calling 1-800-638-3522. Make sure to mention that you are making a donation on behalf of "Josh Stallings" and mention my YAGM code "GCS-3193." Donations can also be made by check. Checks should be addressed to "Evangelical Lutheran Church of America." In the memo line, write "YAGM - Josh Stallings - GCS 3193." Checks should be sent to: Evangelical Lutheran Church in America / PO Box 1809 / Merrifield, VA 22116-8009. All donations are tax deductible.
